It’s safe to say that Marilyn Monroe has one of the largest fan bases of any celebrity. So large that in Los Angeles, there’s a whole profession of Monroe impersonators. Shortly after moving to L.A., Emily Berl became fascinated with the profession. She writes:

I’m less concerned about how much they look like Marilyn and more concerned about their motivations for becoming her. The women I have met through this project want to portray the real Marilyn, not the overly sexualized, overly simplified version of her.
