Here at LIFE.com, we’re known for our amazing collection of legendary images of yesterday complimented by the storytelling images of today. In a new regular feature on our site, we’re highlighting compelling photographic ventures that are making a difference in the world and creating the iconic images of tomorrow.

Photographer Seamus Murphy has been documenting life in Afghanistan since 1994, and is hoping to raise enough money to create a documentary film about his experiences and the changes he’s witnessed in the complex, tortured central Asian country.

He’s been working with Kickstarter to collect those funds, and has shared some of his photos with LIFE.com to give potential donors a glimpse of what his film will show.
